Water Harvesting

One of the best parts of buying our land in 2018 was that it was uneven. While this had its own challenges in terms of setting up the irrigation facilities, it allowed us an easy opportunity to fix a water recharging system.

Having a water recharging pond on a farm can be incredibly beneficial. By collecting runoff water from the farm and adjacent areas, the pond can act as a reservoir and help to reduce flooding risks.

Additionally, the water can be used to irrigate crops, reducing the demand on water resources. The pond can also provide a habitat for aquatic wildlife, helping to support biodiversity.

Finally, the presence of a water recharging pond can help to mitigate the effects of climate change, as it can absorb carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere.

In our case, digging out the pond also afforded us an amazing luxury - we got soil from the farm itself which came in handy to manage the parts on the farm which were too rocky to cultivate otherwise.

As it stands today, we recharge more than we use (from the ground water system).
